Upgrades on the way for Hobart City High School

The works plan for the Rockliff Liberal Government’s $21.5 million redevelopment of Hobart City High School has been released today for public feedback.

Minister for Education, Children and Youth, Roger Jaensch, said the redevelopment is part of the Liberal Government’s plan to invest $255 million into education capital works over the next four years.

“Our Government is absolutely focused on taking our State to new levels and making it the best place to live, work and raise a family,” Minister Jaensch said.

“The main focus of the Hobart City High School works is to create building connectivity by integrating new and existing learning and common areas with indoor and outdoor spaces.

“A digital fly-through has also been developed that shows how the new facilities at the New Town campus might look.”

Liberal Member for Clark, Madeleine Ogilvie, said there was a lot of interest in the redevelopment project.

“The consultation process showed that the community was passionate and committed to the school,” Ms Ogilvie said.

“The physical learning environment has a major impact on student access, engagement and participation in learning and this redevelopment will benefit Hobart City High School students for many years to come.”

The release of the construction tender is expected in the first quarter of 2024, with construction anticipated to get underway by mid-2024.

The works plan was developed by the project architects Thomson Rossi in collaboration with the school, and extensive student, staff and community consultation has helped shape its development.

The Rockliff Liberal Government is also investing $15.1 million for the redevelopment of Cambridge Primary School and $20 million to revitalise Cosgrove High School, as part of our record infrastructure agenda.

By sticking to our long-term plan and doing what matters for all Tasmanians, we are keeping our economy strong and creating more jobs.

It is only the Rockliff Liberal Government that has the vision and aspiration to take Tasmania forward.
