Minister for Hospitality and Small Business
Born and raised in Richmond and educated at Campania District High School, Jane has spent much of her life in the electorate of Lyons.
She built her first home in Brighton and established her own successful small business there.
After 10 challenging yet successful years, she sold her business and was recruited by multinational company Procter & Gamble
Jane’s experience growing up on a farm and working in small business taught her the value of hard work and giving back to the community.
Her father, Colin Howlett, served as a long-term and dedicated Mayor of the Southern Midlands.
Colin inspired Jane’s passion for her local community and her Liberal Party values and, together with her Mum Roslyn, continues to play an important role in Jane’s life.
In 2018 Jane was elected as the Liberal Member for Prosser and served as a Minister in Peter Gutwein’s cabinet.
She was elected to the seat of Lyons in the 2024 Tasmanian State election.
Jane is committed to serving the many communities across Lyons and is working to ensure that everyone has access to affordable housing, quality healthcare and education, and employment opportunities.
Farming was a huge part of Jane’s early family life. She knows first-hand that our agricultural sector is the lifeblood of our state and as Minister for Primary Industries and Water, she will always back our farmers.
As Minister for Racing, Jane wants to rebuild trust and restore faith in the racing industry across all three codes and see them thrive, because she knows how important it is to so many families and communities across Tasmania.
She wants Tasmania to be a place where families can grow and continue to enjoy our fantastic way of life, and will keep working hard to make Tasmania the best place in Australia to do business.
Jane is married to Sergei and has two children, Dimitri and Penelope.
