Turning Tassie Teal for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

On behalf of the Tasmanian Government, I am pleased to welcome the JackJumpers’ announcement and launch to turn Tassie Teal for Ovarian Cancer during the month of February.

Each year in Australia, more than 1,500 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month seeks to raise awareness of ovarian cancer and to recognise women, their families, and friends affected by ovarian cancer.

Ovarian cancer can occur in any woman, but the risk increases in women over 50 years of age. More than 90 per cent of all ovarian cancers occur in women who do not have a family history.

It is wonderful to see the team using their position to not only educate the Tasmanian community about early detection and cancer specifically but also to raise vital funds to support women diagnosed with ovarian cancer and their families.

I urge Tasmanians to get involved throughout the course of the week and you can read more about the JackJumpers ‘Teal Game’ and the awareness activities HERE.

Our Government is proud to support a basketball team that all Tasmanians can get behind. The JackJumpers have been successful in uniting the basketball community and building a loyal fanbase.

It has been amazing to see the buzz that the JackJumpers have created for the sport around the State with more and more young Tasmanians getting active as a result.

The fundraising campaign begins today, 21st February with several awareness activities ahead of the ‘Teal Game’ next Monday, 28th February at MyState Bank Arena.
