Tasmania continues to lead the nation in wage growth

Tasmania has maintained the equal highest wage growth in the nation, alongside Western Australia, demonstrating an impressive 4.1 per cent annual growth, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics' latest wage growth data.

This figure surpasses the national average, which currently stands at 3.6 per cent, and represents the largest annual growth in wages in Tasmania in over a decade.

Treasurer, Michael Ferguson, said our record-breaking wage growth means that not only are more Tasmanians in jobs than ever before, but they are earning more than ever before.

“With a record low unemployment rate of 3.8 per cent, as reported by the latest ABS jobs data, Tasmania has defied expectations. This is half the 7.6 per cent unemployment rate in 2014, during the bad old days of the former Labor-Green Government.” Mr Ferguson said.

“With 56,700 more Tasmanians employed since 2014, our workforce is not just growing, but thriving. The numbers speak for themselves - 11,600 more Tasmanians are in work today compared to this time last year.

“Our vacancy rate remains high, indicating a strong demand among Tasmanian businesses for more workers. More jobs are available than ever before. It's a clear reflection of the confidence that businesses have in our state's economy.

“This is not a coincidence; the Rockliff Liberal Government’s clear plan to build a strong economy and deliver jobs growth is working. We will continue to do all we can to keep this momentum going.

"We have proven that our approach is working and we assure Tasmanians that we will not rest on our laurels. We will continue to do all we can to maintain, and indeed, accelerate this momentum.”
