Mental Health Week 2022

Mental Health Week highlights the role we all play in looking after our own mental health and supporting others to do the same.

Mental Health Week will be held from October 8-16 this year, and I encourage all Tasmanians to participate in the events being held right across the State.

This year’s theme of ‘Awareness, Belonging, Connection’ highlights key aspects that are needed to boost mental health and wellbeing and build resilience.

We know that having conversations about mental health can reduce stigma and encourage our communities to value our mental health and wellbeing as much as our physical health.

We can all check-in and talk with each other, our families, friends, neighbours, and colleagues, encourage people to seek help when they need it, and develop an understanding of when we might need to reach out for help ourselves.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to improving mental health outcomes for Tasmanians which is why we are providing more mental health and wellbeing services and supports than ever before through our overarching mental health plan for Tasmania, Rethink 2020, and the Tasmanian Mental Health Reform Program.

Importantly, we know that a strong economy allows us to deliver essential services for Tasmanians and is enabling us to build a better mental health system with a focus on early intervention and prevention, more community-based support options, and new facilities.

This is underscored by a significant investment of $370 million in this important area since our government came to office in 2014, including:

  • PACER – a rapid response service for acute mental health distress in the community;
  • $45.2 million to completely transform Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services;
  • A Tasmanian Lifeline, a call in/reach-out service for psychosocial support; and
  • Building 27 new mental health beds with wrap-around services
  • at the Peacock Centre and St John’s Park.
