The Tasmanian Liberal Government is supporting local businesses to drive innovation, develop local capability, and create new highly skilled jobs for our State.
That is why we have invested $500,000 into the Tasmanian Space Technology Seed Fund, which aims to grow our space sector, drive innovation, strengthen industry collaboration, and increase investment.
This fund will support eligible businesses in research and development projects that seek to extend, adapt or develop new products or services for the space economy.
I was pleased to launch the second round of the Fund today, which will offer grants of between $25,000 and $100,000 available on a co-contribution basis, encouraging businesses to be bold and engage in the growing space sector.
Three local tech companies are set to enter the fast-growing space economy with the help of the first round of the Fund.
Handbuilt Creative, based in Richmond, Firmus, based in St Leonards, and Legana-based Pivot Maritime, have a strong track record of success across the ICT, advanced manufacturing, defence and creative industries.
With support from the Tasmanian Government, these companies will apply their technology, resources, and capabilities, to capture exciting new opportunities in the rapidly growing space sector.
The projects being supported include real-time identification and tracking of space debris, advanced spaceflight simulation and unique 3D visualisation tools for extravehicular missions on the moon.
We recognise the incredible opportunity offered to our innovative Tasmanian businesses by the space industry, which is expected to grow to $12 billion and create 20,000 jobs in Australia by 2030.
