Tasmania has once again captured the world’s attention, earning a coveted spot in the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards 2025 and receiving high praise from internationally renowned chef Gordon Ramsay.
The Readers’ Choice Awards, voted on by over 500,000 global travellers, celebrate the best destinations, hotels, and experiences across the globe.
Tasmania made the list of ‘Best Islands in the World’, coming in at #2 in the Australasia and Pacific region.
Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Jane Howlett, said the inclusion highlights Tasmania’s growing reputation as a must-visit destination for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and culinary enthusiasts alike.
“To be named among the world’s top islands and receive praise from one of the most respected chefs globally is a proud moment for Tasmania. It reflects the passion of our producers, the creativity of our chefs, and the authenticity of our experiences,” Minister Howlett.
“Tasmania’s tourism and hospitality industries continue to thrive, with local operators embracing storytelling, innovation and quality to deliver world-class experiences.”
In a video interview with Condé Nast Traveller, Gordon Ramsay sings praises for Tasmania’s produce when recounting his favourite food destinations from around the world.
Having visited Tasmania to film part of his National Geographic TV series Uncharted, the global superstar chef says he couldn’t quite believe the standard of our produce.
Tourism Tasmania CEO, Sarah Kingston Clark, said the recognition reflects the island’s growing appeal to international audiences.
“Tasmania offers something truly special—wild landscapes, world-class produce, and a community of passionate makers and chefs. This acknowledgment by both global travellers and culinary icons like Gordon Ramsay goes a long way towards driving awareness and consideration of Tasmania as a desirable destination."
