Bridget Archer, Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing

The Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, has today convened a roundtable with The Hobart Clinic, relevant unions, and other interested stakeholders around the pending closure of the privately-run Hobart Clinic.

Minister Archer acknowledged the concerns in the community regarding the Clinic’s decision to close.

“While The Hobart Clinic advised us their business model is not sustainable, our Government continues to work with stakeholders on potential alternatives," Minister Archer said.

“I have convened a roundtable today to bring everyone together in the same room, to attempt to work through these issues.”

Minister Archer will also meet with the Federal Health Minister, Mark Butler today, to discuss the failing viability of privately-run health facilities across the country.

“It is very clear this is an ongoing national issue that will require the attention of the Federal Government and I will raise this directly with Minister Butler to ensure Tasmania’s voice is heard," Minister Archer said.

Since 2021, the Tasmanian Government has provided almost $7 million to the clinic to ensure it continues to provide services to Tasmanians.
