Kerry Vincent, Minister for Housing and Planning
The Tasmanian Government is delivering more homes faster through its new ModHomes program.
The Government is getting on with delivering on its 2025 election commitment to expand the ModHomes program by a further 200 homes.
Minister for Housing and Planning, Kerry Vincent, said every Tasmanian deserves a roof over their head.
“We are delivering on our election commitment to deliver an extra 200 modular homes,” Minister Vincent said.
“Modular Homes take half the time of a traditional build and cost about 70 per cent of a traditionally constructed home.
“Today, we mark World Homelessness Day by acknowledging that all Tasmanians have a right to safe and secure housing.
“As a Government, we want to be helping Tasmanians to deal with the challenges that they face, with compassion and commonsense.”
ModHomes are an efficient and effective way to get more roofs over the heads for Tasmanians sooner.
Since 2021, more than 200 modular homes have been delivered through Homes Tasmania, many in regional areas where on-site construction can be challenging.
The Tasmanian Government has delivered 4,358 additional social and affordable homes, marking significant progress towards the target of 10,000 homes by 2032.
During August, 131 social and affordable homes were delivered for Tasmanians, including 65 new units at Queens Walk, increasing the number of homes at the site to 149.
Minister Vincent said our Government is also investing in key support services.
“Each year, we provide more than $50 million towards Specialist Homelessness Services, including 20 homeless shelters and three Safe Space services statewide, to provide crisis, transitional and emergency accommodation and support statewide,” Minister Vincent said.
“We know young people can be vulnerable to homelessness which is why we have implemented the Youth2Independence (Y2I) program across the State.
“The Y2I program provides homes for more than 200 young people aged 16-24 and is delivering significant results.
“Over the past year, more than 80 per cent of young people in Y2I facilities were able to achieve an employment outcome during their stay.”
