Tasmania welcomes the 2021 Australian Rowing Championships

Tasmania is recognised nationally and internationally for delivering a range of events, reinforcing our strong brand and providing significant economic and social benefits to our State.

Today, I am pleased to confirm the Australian Rowing Championships will take place in Tasmania from 22 - 28 March 2021, putting Lake Barrington in the national rowing spotlight.

This is great news for Tasmanians as we safely welcome the event back to the State in a COVID-safe way, more than a decade after the previous Nationals event held here in 2009.

Event organisers have been working closely with the Tasmanian Government and Public Health on a COVID-safe event plan, which has now been approved by the Tasmanian Department of Health.

The Australian Rowing Championships is Australia’s largest rowing regatta, attracting around 4,500 visitors to the State from right across the country during the week-long event.

The Tasmanian Government has invested $1.3 million to bring the Championships to Tasmania, along with two further Masters events to be held in 2024 and 2028.

This year’s Nationals will also include a special exhibition marking the Centenary of the Queen’s Cup, celebrating the achievements of women in rowing over the last hundred years.

Tickets for the event are now on sale online at Ticketmaster, and I urge Tasmanians to grab a ticket and come along to see some of the country’s top rowing athletes in action.
