The Tasmanian Government is committed to improving work health and safety on our farms, which is why are implementing a $2 million Primary Producer Safety Rebate Scheme.
This delivers another important election commitment, as part of our 100 Day Plan, and will provide cash-back rebates of up to $5,000 for farmers who implement safety measures that help reduce work-related injuries in the farming sector.
The Scheme is available from 1 October 2021 and provides rebates for the purchase of eligible workplace safety solutions to small, medium and owner-operator businesses within the agriculture sector.
The Scheme targets the most common hazards that cause death and injury in this sector, such as vehicle incidents involving quad bikes and tractors.
As part of the application process, applicants will need to identify the hazard at their workplace, explain what the risk associated with that hazard is, and why implementing one of the eligible solutions would reduce that risk.
Our Government wants to see a demonstrated improvement in safety performance and has worked collaboratively with industry representatives on the development of the new Scheme. In particular, I thank the Safe Farming Reference Group for their valuable input into the development of the Scheme.
I encourage eligible workplaces to take part in the Primary Producer Safety Rebate Scheme, to help reduce farm deaths and injuries on Tasmanian farms.
