More homes for Tasmanians than ever before

The first round of the Government’s Community Housing Growth Program has locked in an additional 764 new homes to be delivered for Tasmanians in need over the next three years.

The homes will be spread across 20 Local Government Areas, providing homes for those who need it most and underpinning jobs in every region of the state.

Importantly, there are further rounds of the Program to follow and we remain committed to reaching the target of up to 1000 new social houses to be delivered under this specific initiative.

The homes are just one part of the Tasmanian Government’s overall record $300 million investment to deliver more homes and homelessness initiatives than ever before.

Combined, these initiatives will see more than 1500 new homes delivered for social housing over the next three years, including 444 due in the next 12 months.

Today I visited a construction site in East Devonport where 24 two-bedroom units are due for delivery by July this year, and will house Tasmanians currently on the Housing Register.

The Government has provided $3.7 million towards the construction of these 24 new homes, and we are partnering with Housing Choices Tasmania to deliver them.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government’s housing plan is delivering more homes for more Tasmanians than ever before as we continue to rebuild a stronger Tasmania.
