Supporting Tasmanians with disability through COVID-19

Tasmanian disability service providers will benefit from a Plan released today which provides guidance on how to manage the impacts of COVID-19 and keep people with a disability safe.

The Tasmanian Coronavirus (COVID-19) Disability Service Providers Preparedness and Response Plan (the Plan) comes in response to the Australian Government’s Management and Operational Plan for People with Disability in line with the Australian Health Sector Emergency Response Plan for Coronavirus. It provides high-level operational guidance on managing and preventing the transmission of COVID-19 for people with disability, their families, carers, support workers and the disability and health care sector.

Tasmania’s Plan has been created with the assistance of Tasmania’s Public Health Service and undergone consultation including, National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS); NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission; Tasmanian Health Service; Chief Allied Health  Advisor; Disability Service Providers; and National Disability Services (NDS) Tasmania, and should be read in conjunction with information available on the Tasmanian Government Coronavirus (COVID-19) website.

On top of our state-specific Coronavirus plan for disability service providers, we continue to work in close collaboration with the Australian Government and the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to ensure people with disability and their families continue to receive the essential disability supports they need at this time.

For Tasmanians with disability, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) remains the lead agency in the response to COVID-19, and more information about COVID-19 for National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants and their families and carers is available on the NDIS website at ndis.gov.au/coronavirus.

I want to thank all Tasmanians with disability, carers and service providers for their assistance and understanding as we work together to ensure we all stay safe.
