Further support for Tasmania’s sport and recreation sector

The Tasmanian Government recognises the important role that sport and recreation plays in our communities and in improving the health and wellbeing of Tasmanians.

The sport and recreation sector faced unprecedented challenges throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and we acted quickly to support it through that difficult period.

Through our Sport and Recreation Grants Program Tranches one and two, a total of $2.8 million was provided to more than 450 sporting clubs and organisations across the State.

Today I am pleased to announce that we will be providing further support to the sector through Tranches three and four of the Program, with applications to open tomorrow.

Tranche three will provide grants of up to $3,000 to Tasmanian sporting clubs and organisations to assist with hygiene and equipment purchases such as hand sanitising and cleaning supplies to comply with return to play measures.

Tranche four will provide grants of between $3,000 and $25,000 to assist with the purchases of sporting equipment such as uniforms, scoreboards and playing equipment. Applicants will be required to contribute to at least 20 per cent of the total project cost.

Tranche three will close on 9 April 2021 or once funds have been exhausted, with tranche four closing on 19 April 2021, and is a competitive grants program.

In continuing our significant support for this important sector, total funding of $1 million will be made available under Tranches three and four.

I am proud of the assistance we have, and are continuing to provide to the sporting clubs and organisations that are vital to our communities.

Further information on Tranches 3 and 4 will be available from tomorrow Thursday 4 March at www.communities.tas.gov.au/csr/Grants
