The Tasmanian Liberal Government is getting on with delivering Australia’s first State-wide planning scheme - a single set of planning rules applied consistently across Tasmania, providing increased certainty, consistency and transparency for all users of the scheme.
The Tasmanian Parliament today passed a number of administrative, but important, amendments to the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993, which bring us another step closer to implementing the Tasmanian Planning Scheme, and keeps it up to date.
The amendments improve statutory processes for the approval of Local Provisions Schedules, preventing unnecessary delays without reducing public input. They also provide for increased procedural fairness during the transition to the Tasmanian Planning Scheme, and improve the process for making minor amendments to the State Planning Provisions.
Importantly, all these changes retain opportunities for community engagement during planning processes and ensure that the consideration of local values and character remains a core priority of the Tasmanian Planning System.
These changes were requested by the independent Tasmanian Planning Commission and follow consultation with councils, agencies and authorities, and other key stakeholders.
Our intention is for the Tasmanian Planning Scheme to be in effect by the end of this year, and these amendments demonstrate our commitment to delivering on that plan.
