This New Year’s Eve, we are asking Tasmanians to celebrate in a COVID safe way to keep the community safe.
This means maintaining social distancing, adhering to current gathering restrictions and not congregating in large crowds to watch the fireworks around the State.
Tasmanians have done an outstanding job in responding to COVID-19 this year, and we need to ensure we keep on top of COVID throughout the holiday season, particularly on New Year’s Eve.
We are encouraging Tasmanians to show common sense, as well as restraint and respect for others, when it comes to bringing in the New Year.
We would encourage revellers to keep the displays of affection to close family and friends only, maintain physical distancing and practice other COVID-safe behaviors through the night.
Tasmanian businesses also have an important role to play.
We ask that venue owners and operators continue to adhere to the rules and ensure a maximum density of one person per two square metres up to a maximum of 250 people for an indoor space and 1000 people in an outdoor space.
Standing and drinking, and dancing is permitted up to a maximum of 100 people in indoor spaces and 250 in outdoor spaces of a venue so long as you are within current density requirements.
New Year’s Eve will be busy, and we ask that Tasmanians be patient and supportive of staff, listen to directions and ensure they are checking in at venues.
We want everyone to enjoy New Year’s Eve, but we have to ensure Tasmanians can enjoy it in a COVID-safe way.
With regard to the current outbreaks in New South Wales and Victoria, Public Health continue to meet daily with their interstate counterparts and will continue to monitor the situation over the next 24 hours and won’t hesitate to take any necessary steps to keep Tasmanians safe.
