2030 Strong Plan delivering cost of living relief

The re-elected Rockliff Liberal Government is getting on with the job to deliver its 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, including commencing work to provide a one-off $250 energy payment for every Tasmanian household.

Premier, Jeremy Rockliff, said the Liberals’ cost of living measures announced in the election would provide support to those who are doing it tough.

“Tasmanians currently have the lowest regulated electricity prices in the nation, supported by our concessions, but we know Tasmanians are feeling the pinch,” Premier Rockliff said.

“That’s why we announced our supercharged Renewable Energy Dividend, which will see a one-off $250 dividend delivered to Tasmanian households and $300 to small businesses, this financial year, providing immediate relief for their upcoming winter bills.”

Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, said the Rockliff Liberal Government will deliver the electricity price relief that Tasmanians need right now, through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

“The $250 one off payment for households, follows the Government’s existing Renewable Energy Dividend that delivers a share back into the pockets of Tasmanians when they return in excess of $90 million,” Minister Duigan said.

“Under the existing initiative, Hydro’s strong results would have seen every Tasmanian household receive a credit of around $30 on their power bills this financial year, above and beyond any concessions they already receive.

“Given the current cost of living pressures Tasmanians are facing, primarily as a result inflationary pressures and rising interest rates, the re-elected Rockliff Liberal Government is supercharging the Renewable Energy Dividend.

“That’s 254,000 Tasmanian households and around 35,000 small businesses who will benefit from the re-elected Liberal Government’s supercharged Renewable Energy Dividend.”

Under the Renewable Energy Dividend scheme, every year that Hydro returns dividends in excess of $90 million, Tasmanians directly share in it.

All Hydro dividends - up to $90 million per year - are returned to the Government, which is then used to invest in essential services that Tasmanians care about like health and education.
