State’s fruit produce is ripe for the picking

The 2022-2023 Seasonal Produce Guide has been launched today, shining a spotlight on Tasmania’s quality fruit produce, and encouraging visitors and locals to source fresh fruit directly from the grower.

“Tasmania’s premium produce is world-class and highly sought after throughout the world, and the guide endorses our State’s reputation for providing fresh, high-quality produce. It also highlights seasonal fruit at our farm gates, markets, events, and on the menus of cafés and restaurants right across Tasmania,” Minister Palmer said.

The Guide also encourages people to spend time in our regional areas.

Minister Palmer said the fruit industry continues to play an expanding role in the ongoing prosperity of the State, with the latest Argi-Scorecard showing the berry production rose by 45 per cent driving up the farm gate value to $209 million, the value of cherries was $73 million and other fruit was $125 million.

“It is a major contributor to the Rockliff Liberal Government’s ambitious target to reach an annual farm gate value of $10 billion by 2050,” Minister Palmer said.

The recently released Tasmanian Agri-Food Score Card shows we are well on track, with the 2020-21 gross value of agricultural production reaching $2.34 billion and the total farm gate value of fruit increasing to $406.7 million.

The Rockliff Liberal Government is building a stronger economy for Tasmania’s future.
