Celebrating our rangers on World Ranger Day

On World Ranger Day (July 31), we recognise our 90 Tasmanian rangers and all Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service staff who maintain the natural and cultural values of our unique environment.

Minister for Parks, Roger Jaensch, said Tasmania’s rangers do an incredible job of protecting our State’s 19 national parks, three World Heritage Areas, and over 800 reserves.

“Rangers also play an important role in keeping the public safe and educating our visitors on the values of Tasmania’s extensive reserve estate,” Minister Jaensch said.

“World Ranger Day is a chance for Tasmanians to thank and celebrate our rangers for the work they do every day.”

World Ranger Day was established to honour rangers across the globe and celebrate the work of their profession.

With unprecedented demand for Tasmania’s National Parks and Reserves, our rangers are enhancing walker safety and knowledge. They provide education on the Leave No Trace principles and interpret the natural and cultural landscapes in some of our most remote areas.

Minister Jaensch thanked the State’s rangers for their ongoing efforts to manage fire risk and response; protect our natural environment; perform rescues and educate the community.

“I encourage all Tasmanians to take time today to reflect and show our gratitude for the dedication and sacrifice of some of nature’s most devoted custodians,” Minister Jaensch said.
