Bridget Archer, Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing

The Tasmanian Cancer Strategy Exposure Draft is open for consultation, to set a long-term direction for reducing the impact of cancer and improving outcomes, equity and experience for Tasmanians.

Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, acknowledged that cancer has a profound impact on Tasmanians.

“We know that every year around 4,000 Tasmanians are diagnosed with cancer, with each diagnosis significantly impacting individuals, families and friends,” Minister Archer said.

“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future we’re working to deliver better healthcare for Tasmanians.

“Developing this Strategy represents a significant step forward for cancer care in our State, providing a clear, shared, long term direction for cancer reform across the health system.”

The Strategy has been developed with input from people with lived experience of cancer, clinicians, service providers, researchers, community organisations, and government partners.

The Strategy covers the full spectrum of a cancer journey, including prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, supportive care, care coordination, palliative and end of life care, and cancer research and clinical trials.

“The work to develop the Strategy has identified both the strengths of Tasmania’s cancer system and the key areas where change is needed to ensure future demand is met,” Minister Archer said.

“I encourage Tasmanians to provide feedback on the Strategy’s priorities and have input on how these important services should be delivered.”

Submissions will be open for the next six weeks, closing on 14 October.
