The Tasmanian Government’s 2025-26 Budget is building a better Tasmania: now, and for the future, by delivering record cost-of-living relief.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the Budget gets the balance right by supporting those who need it most.
“As a Government, we continue to reach in where we can, to provide relief to Tasmanian families who are facing cost of living pressures,” Premier Rockliff said.
“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we have already delivered significant concessions and relief measures, including our supercharged Renewable Energy Dividend payments to every household and small business.
“This year, Tasmanian households have received a further $60 credit on their energy bills, helping ease the pressure as we enter the cooler months.
“The 2025-26 Budget invests a record $550 million in cost-of-living, with $356.7 million of discounts and concessions for eligible Tasmanians across rates, water, transport and energy.
“The Budget extends the Government’s half-price bus fares initiative for students and regional routes for a further 12 months, making life a little easier for thousands of Tasmanian families.
“We are expanding our healthy school lunch program to include more schools, providing thousands of additional children with a nutritious lunch, saving families up to $950 each year.
“And, we are extending our popular Ticket to Play and Ticket to Wellbeing voucher programs, which enable students and seniors to participate in sporting and recreational activities by providing vouchers to cover club/organisation fees.
"The MyHome Shared Equity Program has already assisted in getting 880 Tasmanian households a foot in the door with a two per cent deposit, and the Budget ensures this can continue.
“Thousands more first home buyers also continue to have the opportunity to realise the dream of homeownership without paying a cent in stamp duty on pre-existing homes valued up to $750,000.”
Treasurer, Guy Barnett, said easing the pressure on family budgets is at the core of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, and this Budget delivers on what we said we would do.
“By providing record concessions to assist those most in need, we can support families, regional Tasmanians, and so many others across our community,” the Treasurer said.
“The Tasmanian Government also continues to build on its partnerships with community-based organisations and services, which do a tremendous job of supporting Tasmanians where and when they need it.
“Initiatives that provide relief to Tasmania’s most vulnerable will continue to be supported through the 2025-26 Budget. This includes:
- Boosting support to 50 community organisations so they can continue to provide food relief to our most vulnerable;
- An energy Hardship Fund, providing support to Tasmanians struggling to pay their energy bills;
- Continuing support for Neighbourhood Houses and emergency food relief providers; and
- Extending the No Interest Loan Network for Tasmanians on low incomes.
“The 2025-26 Budget gets the balance right by delivering record cost of living relief and providing a sensible pathway to surplus.
“It is a Budget that ensures we will continue to have a strong economy by backing business and economic growth, without increasing taxes.”
