The Tasmanian Government continues to rebuild the State’s major hospitals and health facilities, to ensure staff and patients have access to world-class facilities alongside a boosted workforce.
The 2025-26 Budget injects a record $14.5 billion investment over the next four years into health – equating to nearly $10 million every single day – ensuring we can meet current and future demand.
Minister for Health, Jacquie Petrusma, said the Tasmanian Government has invested more than $1 billion in new hospitals and health infrastructure alone over the past decade, and will spend a further $1 billion more over the next decade to keep building a better health system for Tasmania: now, and for the future.
“Over the next four years, $663.5 million will be invested into hospitals and health infrastructure including the construction of three new dedicated mental health precincts,” Minister Petrusma said.
“In the North, we’re continuing our 10-year $580 million redevelopment of the Launceston General Hospital, with $167.7 million in the Budget, enabling the expansion of the emergency department and the delivery of a new Northern Mental Health Precinct, as well as $88 million for the new life-saving Northern Heart Centre.
“The North West will see the first stage of the North West Regional Hospital Masterplan being progressed, with $57 million invested in the Budget to upgrade the emergency department, acute care facility and car park.
“Additionally, works on the new Mental Health Precinct will soon commence, with works also on the way for a new Devonport Health Hub.
“On top of that, the Budget includes $7 million to complete the Mersey Community Hospital expanded redevelopment, and $5.5 million for the West Coast District Hospital expansion – which will enhance services for those in Queenstown and surrounds.
“In the South, the Budget invests $109 million to progress the St John’s Park Health and Wellbeing Precinct, and $91 million to deliver a state-of-the-art expanded Emergency Department at the Royal Hobart Hospital, increasing treatment points and improving patient flow.
“To ensure every Tasmanian can get the healthcare they need faster, the 2025-26 Budget includes $16 million for rural hospitals and ambulance station upgrades.
“We’re building new ambulance stations right across the State, with state-of-the-art stations being delivered in King Island, Legana, Snug, Cygnet, Bicheno, and Longford.”
The 2025-26 Budget delivers what we said we would do. It delivers new and improved health facilities with more beds, more ambulance stations, and more specialist facilities – without increasing taxes.
This year’s Budget is building a better Tasmania, now and for the future.
It gets the balance right, while providing a sensible pathway to surplus.
