The 2025-26 Budget builds Tasmania, now and for the future.
It is a budget that continues to deliver our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.
Tasmania has continued to see a record low unemployment rate, sitting at or below 4.2 per cent for over 3 years.
To maintain this and to increase the participation rate, the 2025-26 Budget delivers a range of key measures and investments to help improve the participation rate in the State.
Treasurer Guy Barnett said that with unemployment now sitting at a record low of 3.8 per cent, the Government recognises more needs to be done to lift the participation rate.
“Tasmanians deserve opportunity, to know their worth, and to have the skills and training to get it done,” the Treasurer said.
“By ensuring we have an active workforce, we are backing in and working alongside our valued business community, ensuring they can continue to be the engine room of our economy.
“The 2025-26 Budget makes a number of key investments in community groups and training services in an effort to lift the participation rate.
“Through initiatives in public transport, education, skills and training, and workforce development, we seek to increase the number of Tasmanians in the workforce.
“We are focused on lifting the participation rate, which will in turn help all Tasmanians, particularly those from lower socioeconomic and other disadvantaged backgrounds.
“Service providers like 26Ten, Area Connect, our Jobs Hub, Transition to Independence and more are all supported through this Budget.
“The Budget also includes support for Hamlet and Troublesmiths, who do incredible work in our community.
“We are investing in public transport and in rehabilitation and support services like Creating Futures to ensure that if Tasmanians want to work, they have the tools, ability and skills to do so.
“Through the 2025-26 Budget, we will continue to ensure we have a strong economy by backing business and economic growth – ensuring Tasmanians have what they need to participate in our growing economy is of vital importance.”
