Tasmanian exports at record high

Confirmation that Tasmanian exports are at record high levels demonstrates that the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s plan to secure Tasmania’s future is working.

The latest ABS export data has revealed that Tasmanian exports have hit a record $3.98 billion in the year to July 2021, exceeding the previous 12-month record.

At the same time, exports grew 11.3 per cent in the year to July 2021 compared to the previous year, which is higher than the national growth of 9.1 per cent - once again, confirming that Tasmania’s plan is working through broader global challenges, including COVID-19.

Importantly for jobs and industry in the State, the mining and minerals processing sector has again proven its importance to the Tasmanian economy, accounting for the value of more than 60 per cent of our exports and providing approximately 5 000 jobs across the State, many in regional areas.

The positive export numbers come on top of the release by ABS yesterday that showed Tasmania’s State Final Demand grew up a whopping 13.1 per cent for the year – the second strongest growth rate of all the states.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government will continue delivering an economy that supports and encourages Tasmanian businesses to produce world-class products and seek out export opportunities.

But we know there is more to do and we will continue to deliver our plan, grow our economy and our workforce, and invest in the key areas to secure Tasmania’s future.
