Delivering life-changing care for those injured on our roads

Four facilities across the State providing care for Tasmanians injured on our roads will be upgraded as part of MAIB’s $85 million Supported Accommodation Renewal Project.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Kerry Vincent, said these facilities provide a vital service, including 24/7 care, supported independent living and respite care for Tasmanians impacted by serious road trauma.

“At its heart, this project is about providing better environments and better outcomes for Tasmanians living with serious injuries,” Minister Vincent said.

“This investment will help ensure Tasmanians with high and complex needs continue to have 24/7 access to appropriate accommodation and care close to their communities.

“The $85 million Supported Accommodation Renewal Project will deliver modern, purpose-built accommodation across MAIB’s four sites.

“Capacity here at this site will increase from 29 to 36 client rooms, with additional carer rooms as well.

“The new facilities will provide contemporary living environments to maximise recovery opportunities, independence and inclusion.

“This project is a leading practice initiative, with other states very interested in the outcomes.

“We are building an even better Tasmania, including through significant investment in the future care and wellbeing of some of MAIB's most seriously injured clients.”

Clients, families, staff and professional service providers have all helped shape the design of the project.

Construction is will commence in late September and conclude by mid-2029.
