The construction of the new Burnie Ambulance Station is now a step closer to being realised with a Request for Tender being released for the project.
We recognise that demand for emergency ambulance responses has been steadily increasing over the past few years which is why our Government remains committed to boosting health services in our rural and regional communities, including in the State’s North-West.
We have committed over $10 million for the new ambulance station which will be constructed on vacant Department of Health land beside the North West Regional Hospital on Brickport Road, replacing the current ambulance centre at Strahan and Brickwell Streets.
This location was chosen as it provides ambulances with safe and efficient access to the North West Regional Hospital Emergency Department and the Bass Highway.
It will house up to 20 vehicles by 2035 to meet the anticipated future needs of Tasmanians in this region.
A new ambulance station will also cater for an increasing paramedical workforce servicing the North-West.
Since coming to Government in March 2014, the Tasmanian Liberal Government has employed an additional 243 FTE employees at Ambulance Tasmania in Tasmania and we will continue to invest in our ambulance services and infrastructure so that Tasmanians can get the right health care in the right place, at the right time.
Construction of the Burnie Ambulance Station is proposed to start in 2022 and be completed in 2023.
