Kerry Vincent, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport
The Tasmanian Government has welcomed the arrival of Air New Zealand's first direct Auckland to Hobart flight for the 2026-27 season, marking the return of a vital international connection for Tasmania.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Kerry Vincent, said the commencement of services reinforces Tasmania's growing appeal as a destination and strengthens important links with New Zealand and global markets.
"Today we welcome Air New Zealand back to Hobart for another season and celebrate the return of a service that delivers significant benefits for Tasmania's visitor economy, businesses and communities,” Minister Vincent said.
"Direct international air access is critical to growing our economy, supporting jobs and ensuring Tasmania remains connected to key markets.
“We’re keen to keep growing tourism opportunities in Tasmania through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.
"Through our Tasmanian Government Access Strategy, we are investing in the infrastructure and partnerships that help make Tasmania more accessible and attractive for visitors, businesses and locals alike.
"The direct Auckland-Hobart service provides a valuable gateway into Tasmania while also giving Tasmanians greater choice and convenience when travelling to New Zealand and beyond."
The seasonal service returns following the announcement of an expanded schedule with more flights and seats available than previous seasons.
The 2026-27 season includes up to 170 flights and more than 33,000 seats, an increase of 36 flights (27 per cent) and 7,268 seats (28 per cent) compared with last year, reflecting continued strong demand for the route.
