Tasmanians are being encouraged to keep their appointment for the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, protecting themselves, their loved ones, and our community.
With almost 44 per cent of eligible Tasmanians having now received their first dose of the vaccine, it’s a priority for the vaccination effort that Tasmanians return for their second dose.
Already we have 19.5 per cent of eligible Tasmanians fully vaccinated with two doses and we want to see that increase rapidly over the next few months.
A new advertising campaign, encouraging Tasmanians to have their second dose began last night. It will feature a range of Tasmanian personalities including Cricket Australia Hall of Fame and ex-Test cricketer, David Boon, 2021 Australian of the Year, Grace Tame, and Australian Test cricket captain, Timothy Paine.
David Boon, featured in the first ad which aired last night, says that it is extremely important for all Tasmanians to be vaccinated.
“In Tasmania, we’ve been very lucky – we’ve been very safe. But we can be even safer.”
“Get vaccinated. Do it for yourself, do it for your family – do it for the State. Don’t wait. Vaccinate.”
Minister for Health, Jeremy Rockliff, encouraged everyone who had already had one dose of the vaccine, to keep their second appointment.
“We want to ensure that everyone receives two doses of the vaccine to give themselves the greatest protection and to build on the excellent work Tasmanians have already done to lead the states in our vaccination effort.”
Importantly, Tasmanians who have received their first dose of the vaccine and did not experience any serious side effects are considered safe to receive their second dose and should feel confident to attend their appointment.
Further ads will be aired later in the year when the vaccine program opens up more broadly to Tasmanians aged under 40 years.
The new ads will feature on TV, print, and social media platforms, and will complement a direct mail campaign reminding those who have an upcoming appointment to receive their second vaccine dose in a Tasmanian Government community clinic.
