Paving the way for the future of Agriculture

The Tasmanian Government is paving the way for the future of Agriculture in Tasmania, working hand in hand with our farmers and agribusiness to develop a new long-term strategy.

Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Gavin Pearce, met with a range of key industry stakeholders to continue work on the priorities for the new Strategy.

“Having leaders from across the agriculture sector coming together to plan for our future was significant,” Minister Pearce said.

“These are the people driving success and innovation in our great state, and through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we’re backing them in.

“We’ve heard loud and clear that to build for the future, we need to be laser-focused on farm profitability, productivity and long-term competitiveness.

“If we want to see our Ag sector continue to grow and thrive, we need to make sure we’re creating the conditions our farmers and agribusinesses need to keep doing what they do best.

“Tasmanian agriculture has recorded sustained strong growth over the past 15 years, now worth over $2.8 billion at the farmgate.

“This Strategy reinforces this success, building on the momentum we’ve seen across the sector to achieve our AgriVision 2050 target of a $10 billion annual farmgate value by 2050.”

Representatives from TasFarmers, Tasmanian Agricultural Productivity Group, Fruit Growers Tasmania, DairyTas, Wine Tasmania, the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture, Tasmanian Women in Agriculture and regional NRMs attended the roundtable.

A draft Strategy will be released for further public consultation in coming months.
