Seven of Tasmania’s top video game development studios will wow the crowds this week at PAX Australia, the largest interactive gaming trade event in the Southern Hemisphere.

The event will be held in Melbourne from 7-9 October 2022, with around 80,000 visitors expected, providing the ideal platform for Tasmania’s developers to reach their audience.

Premier and Minister for Trade Jeremy Rockliff said:

“Tasmania’s trade sector is delivering record results, and we are committed to supporting our industries of the future to tap into global opportunities and showcase their products on the national and international stage.

“I’m sure our local businesses will do Tasmania proud, and I wish them all the best as they showcase their products to potential new audiences, potentially growing our gaming sector for the future.

“Increasing the diversity of Tasmania’s exports by supporting emerging industries in Tasmania is key to building a well-diversified and resilient economy, and is a key pillar of the Tasmanian Trade Strategy 2019-2025."

Minister for the Arts Elise Archer said:

“We are thrilled to be able to support our game developers to showcase their work at the biggest business-to-consumer video game event in the Southern Hemisphere.

“This initiative is an excellent opportunity to showcase the Tasmanian brand and capabilities in this sector, and complements our commitment to building Tasmania’s already stellar reputation as a leader in the arts and cultural sector.

“This is a unique collaboration between Screen Tasmania and Trade Tasmania, with the support of Brand Tasmania, and is sure to make a lot of noise on the PAX floor.”

Minister for Science and Technology Madeleine Ogilvie said:

“Our tech sector is booming, and our digital innovators are delivering results across every industry.

“Today we celebrate what our creative tech sector is doing in games development, which is another feather in the cap for our important tech sector that is on track for exponential growth.

“With 1.2 million jobs currently on offer across the nation, and expected revenue growth to $3 billion in 2024, the opportunities to get engaged in careers of the future from right here in Tasmania have never been greater.”
