The Tasmanian Government is delivering an additional $500,000 for food relief services ahead of Easter, providing targeted support for Tasmanians facing cost-of-living pressures during a period of economic uncertainty.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said households across the state are feeling the impact of rising costs and global uncertainty, and the Government is focused on practical action to ease pressure where it matters most.
“These are uncertain times, and we know many Tasmanians are doing it tough,” the Premier said.
“That’s why our Government is stepping up with responsible, targeted cost-of-living support to help people get through.”
The one off Easter funding boost will help frontline food relief organisations across Tasmania meet increased demand in the lead up to Easter, supporting families, seniors and vulnerable Tasmanians.
“This investment builds on the action we have taken in recent days to provide cost-of-living relief, including making public transport free for three months and leading the call for fuel excise relief to help Tasmanians get where they need to go,” the Premier said.
“These measures are about putting practical help in people’s pockets.”
Premier Rockliff said food relief providers play a vital role in supporting communities, particularly during high cost periods like Easter.
“This additional funding will help ensure these organisations can continue their important work when demand is high,” he said.
“We will continue delivering targeted support for Tasmanians and backing our community sector.”
