Minister for Education, Children and Youth, Roger Jaensch, spent Friday morning out in the fresh air with students at Burnie Primary School to celebrate Schools Tree Day.
“It was fantastic to join Grade 4 students, planting native shrubs and plants, as they learnt to identify renewable and non-renewable resources and discussed the importance of the environment,” Minister Jaensch said.
“This annual event is a great way to teach students around Australia about their local environment, with activities ranging from building habitat for wildlife and nature play to learning about how the environment impacts plants, animals and people.
“We know spending time outdoors and in nature is also beneficial to our physical and mental health, and for children’s development.”
Schools Tree Day and National Tree Day, which is this Sunday (July 30), are Australia’s largest annual tree-planting and nature care events. More than 26 million trees have been planted as part of this program since it began in 1996.
