A successful program which sees Year 12 students able to apply for a course at the University of Tasmania based on the recommendations of their school has been launched for 2022.
The program was established in 2020 to remove the stress and pressure for students whose lives and learning were disrupted due to the challenges of COVID-19.
It sees offers made to students based on an assessment of their capabilities, the perspectives of their teachers and Year 11 results instead of their Year 12 results.
Students are able to apply for five courses and receive an offer in July, aiming to ensure they are not disadvantaged in their transition from senior secondary school to further study.
Last year, 2,300 students accepted offers into the University of Tasmania through this program, which included nearly 700 students from the mainland.
There is no doubt that this has been a challenging period for our students, which is why it was so important that we responded with an initiative like this to ensure we are supporting our students remain engaged with learning.
