Rebate scheme to support producers affected by natural disasters

In a joint effort to assist Tasmanian producers affected by drought or natural disasters, the Federal and State Governments have announced an extension to the On-Farm Emergency Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme.

The scheme provides financial support for acquiring, installing, and/or repairing damaged on-farm water infrastructure.

Under the scheme, the water infrastructure must help address one of the following:

  • animal welfare;
  • the resilience of primary producers against future droughts;
  • repair and replacement of damaged water infrastructure to aid recovery from natural disasters; and
  • support permanent planting requirements.

Applications for the rebate are open now until 30 June 2024. For more information or to apply visit https://farmpoint.tas.gov.au/business-and-trade/financial/grants-and-funding

Quotes from the Federal Minister for the Environment and Water, the Hon Tanya Plibersek MP:

“Tasmanians know all too well that extreme weather events devastate communities and take years to recover from.

“That's why these rebates are an important tool for many farmers - because they help with recovery while also putting farmers in a better position to look after livestock and crop the next time they're confronted with drought, frost or fires.

“I thank Tasmania for co-funding this program so that we can help more farmers prepare for a future with a more variable climate.”

Quotes from the Tasmanian Minister for Primary Industries and Water, the Hon Jo Palmer:

“Recent natural disasters that Tasmanians can apply for a rebate towards recovery costs include the October 2022 floods, with an additional 18 Local Government Areas included in the eligibility list for funding under the extension.

“Under the scheme, eligible applicants can receive rebates amounting to 25 per cent of the costs incurred for purchasing and installing on-farm water infrastructure. The maximum total rebate available is up to $25,000.

“Developing a climate ready agricultural sector and supporting primary producers to be resilient to drought and natural disasters is a priority to unlocking the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s target to grow the value of agriculture to $10 billion by 2050.

“Our Government is absolutely focused on taking our State to new levels, supporting our primary producers, and making it the best place to live, work and raise a family.”
