Labor's misleading energy claims continue

Labor continues to show it has nothing to offer Tasmanians apart from scaremongering and trying to misrepresent the clear facts around energy and cost of living.

The rate of return on regulated assets held by transmission network operators, including TasNetworks, is set by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) following extensive processes that include opportunities for public consultation and input.

The AER has strongly rejected the claims in the report produced by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis and the methodology that has been used.

Energy Networks Australia have also dismissed the report, noting that it is misguided and fundamentally misunderstands the regulatory framework.

TasNetworks always seeks to keep prices as low as possible and its people are working hard on behalf of all Tasmanians to deliver affordable, reliable and clean energy.

TasNetworks earns a regulated rate of return on its assets as set by the AER and its network charges to customers actually decreased over the period 2014-2021.

Labor’s false and fabricated claims of overcharging might give them a cheap political headline, but Tasmanians won't forget when Labor sat back and watched power bills skyrocket by 65 per cent when they were in government.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has a track record of keeping downward pressure on power prices and our regulated electricity prices are the lowest, or amongst the lowest, in Australia.
