I was today delighted to attend Tasracing’s official launch of the new look Ladbrokes Tasmanian Summer of Racing, which will feature the best of Tasmania’s equine and greyhound athletes.
From this Friday 4 December through to 26 February, all of the stars of our local racing industry will step out and race for glory.
The Summer of Racing will encompass 24 feature race meetings starting with the Ladbrokes Golden Mile for Thoroughbreds at Spreyton hosted by the Devonport Racing Club this Friday.
The final race of the summer campaign will be a dual harness and greyhound meeting at the Devonport Showgrounds on 26 February.
Due to the impact of COVID-19 and necessary public health restrictions, the racing events will not be quite the same. I am confident, however, that each of the race clubs will deliver an enjoyable, exciting and memorable series of race days and nights.
Other feature racing events over the summer include:
Thoroughbreds
Harness
Greyhounds
And, of course, the iconic King Island Race Club will host seven dual code (harness and thoroughbreds) starting this Saturday and going right throughout January.
This is the first year all three racing codes have been included in a Summer of Racing campaign.
Details for all of the Summer of Racing events can be found at: www.summerofracing.com.au
The industry is worth more than $103 million to our State economy every year and this time of the year is a critical part of that valuable economic injection.
