Eric Abetz, Treasurer
Federal Labor's failure to get inflation under control is continuing to hit Tasmanians hard, with today's ABS CPI data showing inflation is once again heading in the wrong direction.
Treasurer Eric Abetz said Tasmania is more exposed to Canberra's decision making than any other jurisdiction.
"Jim Chalmers' inability to get inflation under control is delivering a double whammy for Tasmanian households and businesses," the Treasurer said.
"Tasmanians are being hit from both directions, facing higher everyday costs while also dealing with the higher interest rates needed to bring inflation under control.
"The Reserve Bank and Labor Premiers across the nation have been united in calling out Federal Labor's spending as a major cause of these inflationary pressures, and we share those concerns."
The Treasurer said while Canberra continues to shirk its responsibility to get inflation under control, Tasmania was stepping up.
"Tasmania is the only state with a genuine budget focused on reducing inflation while helping Tasmanians get access to better healthcare, cost of living relief and housing - all without raising taxes," the Treasurer said.
"We’re delivering significant cost-of-living relief for Tasmanians, with more than $370 million available through a range of discounts, concessions and subsidies.
"Free public transport has been a massive cost of living measure, with foot traffic on our buses and ferries increasing rapidly since announced. This measure is having real and immediate relief.
"We will continue doing our bit, but Tasmania cannot tackle inflation alone. It's time for the Federal Government to do its part."
