Continuing to Support Landlords and Tenants
The Tasmanian Government continues to provide significant support to Tasmanian landlords and tenants who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our Government’s support packages for landlords and tenants have now removed more than 75 per cent of rent arrears from the residential tenancy market.
As of Friday, 11 December 2020 more than $2.2 million dollars in support had been paid to landlords and tenants who have been financially impacted as a result of COVID-19, and nearly 3,000 tenants and landlords have applied under the COVID-19 Rent Relief Fund and the COVID-19 Landlord Support Fund during the emergency period.
Of these applications, 2,309 tenants and landlords have received assistance through these funds, with a further 55 tenants approved to receive payment and 219 applications by tenants and landlords currently under immediate assessment.
These support packages are the most generous in Australia, offering up to $10,000 per residential dwelling for eligible tenants and landlords. These funds are paid directly to the landlord for rental arrears and the COVID-19 support packages remain available to landlords and tenants until 31 January 2021.
We recognise the daily challenges faced by Tasmanians during this time of financial hardship, and we continue to provide the necessary support as Tasmania recovers and rebuilds from COVID-19.
