Roger Jaensch, Acting Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction,

Congratulations Hydro Tasmania and Goldwind Australia

Congratulations to Hydro Tasmania and Goldwind Australia for respective honours at this year’s Clean Energy Australia awards.

Hydro Tasmania won the Community Engagement Award for its pivotal role in the state’s response and recovery when COVID 19 struck last year.

Hydro Tasmania’s COVID-19 Recovery Program reassured Tasmanians that they were adapting to the conditions to keep the lights on, and assisting communities in overcoming the pandemic challenges by partnering with community organisations to deliver initiatives to assist hard-hit sectors and vulnerable groups.

During these difficult times Hydro Tasmania recognised it was well placed to increase its support for communities in need and harnessed ideas from staff, suppliers, contractors, industry and not-for-profits.

Goldwind Australia won the Innovation category for its IdentiFlight system to protect wedge-tailed eagles at its Cattle Hill Windfarm in the Central Highlands.

The IdentiFlight system uses 16 recognition units to identify eagles and shutdown specific turbines to avoid collisions.

Tasmania is already 100 per cent powered by renewable energy and it is fantastic to see Hydro Tasmania and Goldwind Australia recognised as being the best in the nation in terms of innovation and community support.
