A new strategy that supports sustainable growth in Northern Tasmania’s events industry has been released, outlining a clear plan to attract more major events and strengthen the region’s pipeline.
Developed by Visit Northern Tasmania, the Northern Events and Festivals Infrastructure Strategy defines clear actions that increase the economic, social and brand benefits of the industry.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the Tasmanian Government was listening to the North and taking action to support jobs, businesses and economic growth in the region.
“Events and business events are a vital part of Tasmania’s visitor economy, bringing people to our State, filling hotel rooms, supporting hospitality and retail businesses and showcasing our regions to visitors from across Australia and the world,” the Premier said.
“The Strategy provides a pathway to build on Northern Tasmania’s strengths, attract more events and ensure the region is well placed to capture the economic benefits that come with them."
The Strategy provides a framework for government, industry and the community to work together to grow the region’s events offering.
“We want to see more visitors staying longer, spending locally and experiencing everything the North has to offer,” the Premier said.
“We are building an even better Northern economy by investing in our events industry, which is a key part of our Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.
“Following our Northern Economic Summit in July, we have worked closely with stakeholders to deliver strong actions that will have lasting economic benefits for the region.”
