Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy delivering positive results for our children and young people

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to providing our children and young people with the best possible chance at life in their early years.

That’s why we have developed the State’s first comprehensive Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy - “It Takes a Tasmanian Village”, that is already making a real difference to the lives of young Tasmanians.

The first Annual Report showcases the personal stories of Tasmanian children, young people and their families and highlights the positive and practical impacts that the actions in the Strategy are having on their wellbeing.

The Annual Report also highlights the positive initiatives we have already taken as part of the strategy.

This includes:

  • The Premier’s Fund for Children & Young People, with 41 successful proposals sharing in $1.5 million under the first grant round, including the Devonport City Council, in partnership with Devonport Community House, who received a grant to construct a skate park at Highfield Park;
  • The Extended School Lunch Pilot, which is providing more than 3000 healthy lunches to more than 1658 students each week; and
  • The Fit for Work program, which has supported 36 young jobseekers by providing opportunities for employment, and building participants’ confidence to engage with employers, access driving lessons, health, financial and social supports and navigating government systems.

Alongside the report we have also released a data snapshot of the first 1000 days wellbeing indicators, and to ensure the report is accessible to children and young people there is also an animated video providing highlights of the Annual Report, along with voices and drawings.

It’s another important step in achieving our vision for Tasmania to be a place where everyone feels valued, included, encouraged, and supported to be the best they can be.

The Strategy was informed by the voice of Tasmanian children, young people, and their families.

They told us what we were doing well, and where we needed to do things differently to improve their wellbeing.

We listened and acted upon their feedback and the Annual Report confirms the great progress that has been made implementing the actions within the Strategy over the last 12 months.
