BBF recruits anti-jobs campaigner in new low

The BBF has reached a new low, advertising for an anti-jobs campaigner to attack Tasmania’s salmon industry that supports thousands of jobs in regional Tasmania.

Fresh from a decisive and embarrassing loss in the High Court where the BBF failed to challenge the validity of the Tasmanian Regional Forest Agreement, the radical protest organisation is turning its sights on aquaculture.

Now they are employing a professional protester to target Tasmania’s hard working salmon industry, whose only job will be to lead a co-ordinated attack on Tasmanian jobs.

As the demand for healthy protein has grown, the Tasmanian Liberal Government has made substantial changes since 2014 to strengthen the oversight and regulation of the salmon industry.

The industry is highly regulated and the Government is continuing to review management arrangements based on the best available science.

The facts are:

• planning takes place under legislation as part of the State’s Resource Management and Planning System;
• farming operations are licenced under legislation and with strict conditions;
• environmental oversight is provided by the independent Environment Protection Authority through licences issued under the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994;
• the Government has increasing transparency through establishment of the salmon portal and through its industry plan; and
• environmental regulations are based on world leading science undertaken at the University of Tasmania and through other research partners such as the CSIRO.

None of this is acknowledged by the professional anti-industry campaigners.

Tasmanians know that the Bob Brown Foundation and the Tasmanian Greens are anti-jobs and anti-workers, and will stop at nothing to bring down productive Tasmanian industries that operate sustainably.
