Backing diversification in our seafood processing sector

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is encouraging diversification in the seafood industry by launching round two of the Seafood Processor Grants Program (SPGP).

The program forms part of our Government’s $2 million Wild Fisheries Action Plan, which is being delivered over two years.

There will be $500,000 available under the second round of the program funding, which is designed to support Tasmanian seafood processors to innovate and invest in new infrastructure and to supply products to emerging and established markets.

Last year, round one of the program provided $743,000 in funding to 10 seafood processors to support them to realign their business operations to meet future processing needs.

Seafood processors have been able to engage new customers, access new markets, develop new products, upskill their workforce and increase their servicing of the commercial fishing industry.

This important work promotes emerging products and helps future-proof businesses against potential market disruptions.

Most of the projects funded through round one are well underway or completed, but the benefits of increasing the resilience of the seafood industry will continue to be realised.

Our Government is delivering for all Tasmanians, and we know that Tasmanian seafood is some of the best in the world.

We are proud to be supporting the industry, which makes significant economic and social contributions to the state and regional development.

Applications for round two funding will open for four weeks from 15 June, with grants of up to $80,000 available.
