Guy Barnett, Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs
Incat Tasmania has been named the 2026 Tasmanian Exporter of the Year at the 32nd Tasmanian Export Awards Gala Dinner held in Launceston last night.
Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Guy Barnett congratulated Incat on the achievement, saying the company had become one of the State’s most recognisable success stories on the global stage.
“Incat is a global leader in sustainable shipbuilding, delivering high-quality battery-electric and hybrid-electric vessels from right here in our State,” Minister Barnett said.
“People around the world have been captivated by the story of Hull 096 – the world’s largest electric ship ever built – and its journey to South America.
“Incat embodies the very best of Tasmanian enterprise, and this award deservedly recognises the significant contribution Incat continues to make to Tasmania’s economy and international reputation.”
Minister Barnett said the Tasmanian Export Awards were a chance to celebrate the outstanding achievements of the businesses taking Tasmanian products, services and expertise to markets around the world.
“These awards recognise this excellence across a diverse range of industries and highlight the innovation, resilience and capability that exists throughout Tasmania’s export community,” Minister Barnett said.
“Our exporters have had an incredible twelve months, with the latest ABS trade data showing our annual goods exports have risen to more than $5 billion, growing at more than double the national growth rate.
“Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s future is helping to open doors for Tasmania's businesses through targeted trade missions, market engagement and industry partnerships, delivering on our ambition to grow exports to $15 billion by 2050.
“I congratulate all nominees, finalists and winners. Your hard work and determination continue to elevate Tasmania’s global standing.”
The Tasmanian Export Awards are aligned with the national Australian Export Awards program, with state winners progressing to the national finals in Canberra later this year.
