Aurora empowers more Tasmanians

Helping more Tasmanians with cost-of-living pressures has been a key focus for Aurora in 2022-23.

Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, said Aurora had worked alongside the Rockliff Liberal Government and the Australian Government to deliver targeted bill relief.

“Tasmania has the lowest regulated electricity prices in the country and also some of the most generous concessions,” Minister Duigan said.

“In partnership with Aurora, up to 140,000 Tasmanian households and 35,000 small businesses were eligible for Energy Bill Relief payments from July 1, 2023.

“It is also encouraging that more and more Tasmanians are taking advantage of the free aurora+ app to better understand and control their energy consumption and costs.

“More than 80,000 Tasmanian households are making the most of this smart technology which dovetails into the roll-out of advanced metres around the State, which has now reached more than 60 per cent of all regulated customers.”

Minister Duigan said that Aurora’s research shows that customers have a much higher level of satisfaction and engagement with Aurora when they have the combination of an advanced meter and aurora+.

Aurora’s 2022-23 profit after tax of $8.2 million was in line with budget.

“To assist customers in hardship the Your Energy Support (YES) incentive program was extended with an additional top up of $200,000 to the Tasmanian Government’s energy hardship fund to directly support customers experiencing financial vulnerability,” Minister Duigan said.

“Our Government will continue to deliver on its long term plan and do what matters for all Tasmanians by keeping Tasmanians connected with the lowest priced electricity in Australia.”
