The launch of Tasmania’s new Parks Online Booking System has been overwhelmingly successful.
Minister for Parks and Heritage, Nick Duigan, said the Tasmanian Government was delivering on its commitment as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future to provide a mobile-friendly platform that allows people to find, book and manage campground bookings in one convenient place.
“Within 24 hours the site has already taken nearly 1000 bookings, more than 700 of those were before close of business yesterday,” Minister Duigan said.
“Fortescue Bay and Freycinet National Park campgrounds were undoubtedly the most popular and are now heavily booked over the summer period. People have been able to see when availability gaps are and secure their spot.
“There is still availability at other sites across Tasmania using the booking system, including at Mount Field, Narawntapu, South Bruny and Mount William.
“The bookings have included interstate visitors and Tasmanians planning their trips, as well as internationally from the United States and Canada, with the average stay around three nights.
“The response from interstate and international shows the level of interest in Tasmania’s natural sites, and also that there is plenty of awareness of this new booking system being in place.
“We know this is a transitional process and our Parks staff are on the ground helping visitors.
“This system will help manage our parks sustainably, helping build an even better Tasmania and also help campers plan and manage their trips in real time.”
Many campgrounds across the State remain free to stay and do not require a booking.
Visitors can access the new booking system and start planning their next adventure here.
