The Tasmanian Government recognises the significant economic impact browsing wildlife can have on agriculture and forestry activities.
We seek to get the balance right in supporting farmers, foresters and land managers in managing the impact of browsing wildlife on agricultural and forestry sectors while ensuring sustainability of wildlife species is maintained.
The Government is working with the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association to develop a new Wildlife Impact Action Plan as part of our First 100-Day Plan.
The Wildlife Impact Action Plan will provide an overarching action plan that documents Tasmania’s approach to managing browsing animal impacts and reflects the range of practical tools and strategies that farmers and landholders can use to manage browsing wildlife on their properties.
The Wildlife Impact Action Plan will also be supported by improved and more targeted wildlife population monitoring.
The Government is also developing the first Tasmanian Wild Fallow Deer Management Plan and is remaking Regulations under the Nature Conservation Act 2002.
This work contributes to the Government’s commitment to reaching a farm grate value of Tasmanian agriculture of $10 billion by 2050 while ensuring strong sustainable browsing wildlife populations.
