Tasmanian’s man of mystery is Dr Shane Broad, who lives in the shadows of calling for massive additional spending while at the same time complaining that we are spending too much.
Treasurer, Michael Ferguson, said like his wishy-washy leader Rebecca White, this fence-sitting is confusing for Tasmanians and fundamentally dishonest with Tasmanians.
"He can’t have it both ways," Mr Ferguson said.
"It’s bad enough that Dr Broad and Ms White backed a Greens’ motion demanding that State wages policy match inflation, which would have added $2.4 billion dollars to the state's credit card, and not employ a single extra nurse or teacher. There isn’t a credible economist in the country that would support such a farcical policy. Stagflation policy such as Dr Broad’s would feed the inflation dragon rather than tame it and lead to even higher interest rates for families and unsustainable government spending.
"Dr Broad can’t use the stadium as his fig leaf. That project receives $230 million of state Government capital funding over the forward estimates, around 5 per cent of our nearly $5 billion infrastructure program and has no impact on the operating balance.
"Dr Broad needs to try a ray of sunlight, come out of the shadows and answer a simple question: Is the government spending too much or too little?"
