New bulk-billing GP clinic locked in for Risdon Vale

The Tasmanian Government has today announced Risdon Vale as the location of its newest TassieDoc clinic, significantly increasing access to primary healthcare for the local community.

Medical First Group will operate the new 100 per cent bulk-billed clinic, marking its first venture in Tasmania.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said this is an important investment in healthcare for the community.

"Risdon Vale has been without a local GP service in recent years,” the Premier said.

“Like many other regions across Tasmania, we are stepping in to fill an important service gap for the community.

“Our Government is delivering free GP care close to home, with this investment providing 20,000 bulk-billed GP appointments for the Risdon Vale community, every single year.

“Before Medical First Group begin seeing patients next year, the current site will receive a complete renovation, making it a contemporary new facility for the community.”

Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, said our Government is delivering the healthcare Tasmanians need.

“Although primary healthcare is an Australian Government responsibility, we are supporting general practices to deliver more bulk-billed GP appointments for Tasmanians around the State,” Minister Archer said.

“Importantly, delivering on this key election commitment is helping Tasmanians get the right care, in the right place, at the right time, relieving pressure on our hospitals.

“The Risdon Vale TassieDoc clinic follows previous announcements to establish our fully bulk-billed GP services in the Huon Valley, Deloraine, four locations across Tasmania’s West Coast, and Bridport.

"Through our Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we’re taking action to build an even better health system for our communities.”

TassieDocs is just one of the ways the Tasmanian Government is ensuring people get the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

It builds on important initiatives like Care@Home, continuous dispensing of the contraceptive pill through pharmacies, extended pharmacy hours and over the counter treatment for uncomplicated UTIs.
