Tasmanian defence industry going for gold

Three of Tasmania’s high-quality defence industry organisations have been named as finalists across four categories in the Defence Connect Australian Defence Industry Awards.

This is yet again more recognition of Tasmanian innovation and our global reputation for excellence, especially in the maritime sector.

The awards recognise people and businesses that make innovation and excellence happen, rather than recognising products, and are open to all businesses operating in Australia that support the defence sector.

Taylor Bros Marine located on Prince of Wales Bay, is a finalist for Naval Business of the Year which recognises businesses that have capitalised on market opportunities and driven business growth.

The Australian Maritime College (AMC) based in Launceston has been named a finalist in the Academic Institution of the Year category for university or academic institutions that support the strengthening of Australia’s defence and national security capabilities.

AMC Search, the training and consultancy division of the AMC has been named a finalist in both the Prime Contractor of the Year and Regional SME of the Year categories.

These nominations recognise AMC Search’s success at delivering services to the defence sector in 2020, including being awarded a three year, $1.5millon contract, to provide training on Autonomous Maritime Systems to the Royal Australian Navy.

In an enormous win for Tasmania, these organisations supplying to the Australian defence industry have been selected as finalists from more than 500 submissions representing over 150 companies.

We wish these great Tasmanian businesses every success and the Tasmanian Liberal Government remains committed to supporting world-class innovation in gaining a greater share of defence supply contracts, to continue to boost our economy and support and grow local jobs.

Winners will be announced in Canberra on 26 November 2020.
